Gifts for Coffee Lovers

Buying for someone who takes coffee seriously is harder than it looks. The gear is specific, the opinions are strong, and the obvious presents are usually the ones they already own.

So this is the list we give our own customers, grouped by budget rather than by category — because the budget is the part you have usually already decided. Everything on it is something we sell, stock and service ourselves, and our staff can tell you whether it actually suits the machine they own.

Coffee gifts under $50

The easiest place to start, and where a surprising amount of the genuinely useful gear lives.

  • ACME cups and saucers — the cup a great many Australian specialty cafes actually serve in. Safe for anyone who cares how the coffee looks as well as tastes.
  • Duralex Picardie glasses — for piccolo and long black drinkers, in 90ml and 200ml sets of six.
  • Subminimal Flick WDT tool — a small upgrade that noticeably evens out extraction. A good gift for someone already fussing over their shots.
  • Rhino Coffee Gear dosing cup — for anyone grinding single doses.
  • A milk jug — most people are still using the one that came in the box, and it is usually the wrong size.
  • Jetblack espresso machine cleaner — unglamorous, always needed, and the thing nobody buys for themselves.

Coffee gifts $50 to $150

This is where gifts start to change how the coffee actually tastes rather than just how it is served: a precision scale, a better tamper, a proper milk jug set, or water filtration for anyone in a hard-water area whose machine is quietly scaling up.

Coffee gifts $150 to $400

Entry-level grinders, pour-over and filter setups, and home roasting gear. If the person you are buying for has a decent machine but a basic grinder, this is the range where you can genuinely improve every cup they make.

Coffee gifts over $400

Grinders and espresso machines — the gift that gets used twice a day for a decade. Worth a conversation before you commit: the right machine depends on how they drink their coffee, how much bench space they have and whether they want to steam milk. Call us or visit a showroom and we will narrow it down with you.

The gift that is not a thing: barista and roasting courses

If they already own the machine, the upgrade is not more equipment — it is knowing how to use it. We run hands-on courses in our own training rooms:

  • Beginner Barista Course — grinding, dosing, extraction and milk texturing from scratch.
  • Advanced Barista Course — dialling in, troubleshooting and latte art for people past the basics.
  • Private Barista Course — one-on-one, built around the machine they actually own. Also available over Zoom.
  • Beginner Coffee Roasting Course — for the person who has gone as far as brewing can take them.

Courses run from $129 to $399. See course dates and book.

When you genuinely cannot decide: gift vouchers

A Jetblack Espresso gift voucher works on anything we sell — machines, grinders, beans, accessories, servicing or a course — online or in any of our showrooms. Vouchers are available from $10 up to $2,000, so you can cover a bag of beans or most of a machine.

Common questions

What do you buy someone who already has a coffee machine?

A better grinder, almost every time. The grinder has more effect on the cup than the machine does, and most people spend their whole budget on the machine and leave the grinder as an afterthought. After that: a precision scale, a quality tamper, or a course.

What is a good coffee gift under $50?

Cups and glassware are the safest choice because they get used daily and nobody minds owning more. If you know they pull their own espresso, a WDT tool or a dosing cup is a better gift than it looks.

Can you help me choose?

Yes, and we would rather you asked than guessed. Call us or visit any of our six showrooms in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Hobart, Newcastle and Kiama — tell us what machine they own and what they drink, and we will point you at the right thing.
