Ceado E37S first weekBy: Michael Cox on 30 August 2021After a lot of analysis and a Rocky, Eureka Specialita I purchased this grinder. It is stepless and an expensive time dosing grinder that could easily do service in a cafe or home enthusiast environment. It is solid, extremely well made and I expect it to last many years of use. Its ability to adjust grind quickly and easily using the 'quick set' worm gearing and its adjustment of the top 83mm burr so that grind setting is not affected if you remove the quick set for cleaning is a major attraction, for me at least. Because I am coming from a stepped grinder and changing many beans I am having to learn to nuances of the grinder as I season the burrs. This is an expected learning curve but I am also dealing with a brand new espresso machine at the same time so it is taking a while, but I have only had the grinder for a week so I am quite forgiving of my impatience. The grinder is extremely quick for grinding, quiet and accuracy of output in grams related to grind time is improving with each use. The machine I have provides flow control, extraction time, temperature control etc so I am able to isolate variables and establish that the grinder adjustment variations are making predictable differences in extraction times. Its early days yet but the final comment might be about aesthetics. This is a beautiful piece of Italian Venetian machinery with a great deal of presence on the bench. I don't want to go all Marie Kondo about this but this is something that gives me 'joy' each time I use it. I made sure I got the 2020 version of the quickset, which has an open worm gear in stainless steel, a magnetic moveable scale to allow you to establish a zero point for the burrs and adjust from there with some reference point and a stainless steel marker post for the scale dial. Finally it has a brass underpinning beneath the quickset teeth which sets off the look of the grinder. This is personal preference though. One final difference with the 2021 machines is the mushroom button on top of the shaft for bean entry so that fingers cannot get to the burrs if the motor is going with the quickset on and the hopper removed. Would I buy it again. Yes it is great piece of machinery and also able to single dose with a simple modification, I didn't mention that it has extremely low retention of grinds because of a grind clearance mechanism and basically extremely fine clearances in the grind chamber that helps with the single dose option. I will explore that down the track of ownership. Another point is that grinds go evenly and without spillage into the portafilter which has an adjustable holder. All in all a very happy purchaser.
Blown awayBy: Remi on 7 September 2020This grinder has exceeded my expectations. With the short hopper, it is possibly the ultimate home grinder. Quiet, fast, perfect dose consistency and about the lowest retention you could ever expect in a large flat-burr. If the budget can stretch, I would recommend it whole-heartedly.
