Ankomn vacuum coffee canisters

Oxygen is one of the main reasons coffee goes stale, so keeping air away from your beans makes a difference. Ankomn Turn-N-Seal canisters have a patented pump built into the lid: twist the button and each turn draws more air out of the container.

How the lid works

A small silicone dimple on the lid sinks when enough vacuum has formed, so you know the canister is sealed without guessing. The containers are made of hard plastic, are light to handle and stack neatly. They can also go in the fridge for other kitchen storage.

Choosing a size

Ankomn canisters come in a range of sizes, from small ones for a few days of beans up to large containers for a full bag, in several colours. Pick a size that matches how much coffee you buy at one time, since a canister that is nearly full keeps less air around the beans.

A practical tip

Store canisters away from heat and direct sunlight, and only fill them with beans you plan to finish in the next few weeks. A vacuum canister slows staling, but it does not bring tired coffee back to life. Wash and dry the canister thoroughly before refilling, and wipe the lid seal so no old coffee oils build up. Finish a canister of beans before topping it up with a new bag.

Frequently asked questions

A pump in the lid removes air each time you turn the button. A silicone dimple sinks when enough vacuum has formed, showing the canister is sealed and the beans are protected from oxygen.

Choose a size close to the amount of coffee you buy at once. Smaller canisters suit one bag at a time, while larger ones suit bulk buyers. A fuller canister leaves less air around the beans.

The containers are suitable for the refrigerator, though coffee beans are usually best stored in a cool, dark cupboard rather than the fridge. The canisters are handy for other pantry items too.

No. It slows the staling that comes from oxygen, but it cannot restore flavour that has already faded. Fill it with freshly roasted beans for the best results.
