Grind By Weight Coffee Grinders
A grind by weight grinder measures the coffee as it falls and stops when it reaches the dose you chose. Timed grinders can drift when the beans or grind setting change, whereas weighing the output keeps the dose in grams consistent.
How They Work
Most use a load cell under the portafilter fork or holder, so the grinder knows how much has landed. Some set doses in tenths of a gram, store recipes and recognise different portafilters. Retention in the chamber still matters, so a scale does not fix everything.
The Models Here
Fiorenzato offers its Sense line, and Eureka's Mignon Libra is a weight-based option. Mahlkonig's E64-WS has electronic grind adjustment and the Mazzer Mini G is listed in a grind by weight version. The Acaia Orbit uses a Lunar scale for weight-based dosing and is listed with Mazzer burrs.
Choosing and Trying
Think about bench space, volume and whether you want a built-in scale or a pairing. Many of our grinders are on display in showrooms, and the team can talk you through workflow, and our barista courses can help with dialling in.
