Cleaning and Maintenance Supplies for Your Espresso Setup
Most coffee problems that look like equipment faults start as build-up: stale grounds in a chute, oil on the burrs, fines packed around the dosing area. A good brush and a regular routine deal with most of it before it affects the cup.
Brushes for Grinders and the Bench
Short, stiff bristles are suited to getting into a grinder chute and around the burr opening, while a softer bench brush sweeps grounds from the counter and tray. Our range includes brushes with timber handles from ECM and Profitec, practical working brushes from Rhino Coffee Gear and Barista Progear, and Wiedemann's barista brush with a replaceable head. Replacement heads are listed separately, so the handle can keep going when the bristles wear out.
Grinder Cleaner
Brushing removes loose grounds, but coffee oil sticks to the burrs. A grinder cleaner, such as the 450g Cafetto product listed here, is fed through the grinder in place of beans and followed by a short purge of coffee. Follow the pack directions and your grinder manual.
Building a Routine
A common approach is a quick brush of the chute after use, a weekly sweep of the hopper and burr area, and a deeper clean every few months. Our workshop sees the results of skipped maintenance first-hand, and our team in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Hobart, Newcastle and Kiama can suggest what to pick up for your own grinder.
