Barista Progear Tools for Cleaner Espresso Prep

Most of the shot quality you can control sits in the few seconds after grinding. These Barista Progear accessories target that moment: breaking up clumps, taming static and keeping the grinder itself clean.

Clump Crusher (WDT Tool)

WDT stands for Weiss Distribution Technique. A handle holds a cluster of very fine needles, and you stir them through the grounds in the basket so clumps break apart and the bed settles evenly. More even grounds give water fewer easy paths to follow, which helps reduce channelling.

RDT Spray Bottle and Grinder Brush

RDT, the Ross Droplet Technique, is a light mist of water over the beans before grinding. It is used to cut down static, so grounds fall into the basket rather than clinging to the chute. The grinder brush looks after the other end of the process, sweeping out leftover grounds so old coffee does not flavour the next dose.

Choosing and Using These Tools

None of these items ties you to a particular machine, which makes them a sensible first upgrade if your shots taste inconsistent. A WDT tool and a gentle mist suit single-dosing and hopper-fed grinders alike. If you are unsure where to start, the team can talk through your grinder and routine.

Frequently asked questions

A WDT tool uses fine needles to stir the grounds in the basket, breaking up clumps and levelling the bed before tamping. The goal is even density, so water flows through the puck more uniformly and the shot is less prone to channelling.

RDT means lightly misting beans with water before grinding. The moisture reduces static, so less coffee clings to the grinder and portafilter. A very small amount is enough, and it is mostly useful for grinders that throw clumpy, staticky grounds.

A quick brush after each session keeps stray grounds from building up around the chute and burr area. Old coffee turns stale and can carry into the next dose, so regular brushing helps flavour and consistency. Deeper cleaning follows your grinder's manual.

They are general-purpose prep tools, so they are not designed around one model. A WDT tool works with most standard baskets, and the spray bottle and brush suit any grinder. If you are unsure about size, the team can help.

Yes. WDT evens out the grounds, but you still level and compress the bed with a tamper afterwards. Many people find the tamp easier and more repeatable because the coffee is already loosely and evenly distributed.
