Coffee Roasters by Brand
Roasting at home or in a small business gives you fresh coffee and control over flavour. The brands here take different routes to the same goal, so the right one depends on batch size, how much control you want and how you like to work.
Drum, Air and Induction Designs
Hottop uses a stainless steel drum, with the B2K+ offering USB connection for logging roasts. Gene Cafe uses a rotating glass chamber with hot air, so you can watch the beans change. Kaffelogic's Nano 7 roasts 50 to 200 grams per batch and uses free Studio software for profiles. Aillio's Bullet models use induction heating and RoasTime software, with the R2 handling around a kilogram.
Matching a Roaster to Your Use
Behmor and Gene Cafe are accessible starting points, while Hottop and Aillio add more control. Consider batch size, ventilation and software, because roasting produces smoke and chaff. Check your space before buying.
Learning to Roast
Good green beans and a repeatable process matter as much as the machine. Our books collection includes roasting texts, and Jetblack runs barista courses. Our showrooms in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Hobart, Newcastle and Kiama can talk you through the options.
