Your grinder matters as much as your espresso machine. A good burr grinder gives you a consistent grind you can adjust in fine steps, which is what turns good beans into great espresso.

How to choose a coffee grinder

  • Flat or conical burrs: flat burrs tend to give more clarity in the cup; conical burrs are often more forgiving and run cooler. Both make excellent espresso.
  • Single dose or hopper: single-dose grinders like the DF64 and Acaia Orbit grind one dose at a time with very little retention. Hopper grinders like the Eureka Mignon and Mazzer suit households that drink the same coffee every day.
  • Stepless adjustment: essential for espresso, so you can make tiny changes to dial in each new bag of beans.

Brands we stock

Eureka, Mazzer, Mahlkonig, Profitec, Lelit, Ascaso, Fiorenzato, Acaia and DF. We service grinders in our workshop and stock replacement burrs for most of the models we sell.

Frequently asked questions

Plan to spend at least a third of your machine budget. A good grinder improves every shot, and a cheap one limits even an expensive machine.

Single dose suits people who weigh each dose and change beans often. A hopper suits households making several coffees a day from one bean.

Some can, like the Fiorenzato All Ground Sense. Most espresso grinders are best left set for espresso.

A burr grinder crushes beans to an even size, while a blade grinder chops them into uneven pieces. Even grounds extract evenly, which is essential for espresso and gives you control over flavour.

Why Choose a High-Quality Coffee Grinder?

Choosing a high-quality coffee grinder means you're able to more precisely control the grinding process, giving yourself a more consistent grind size. If you're looking for consistent extraction, then a high-quality coffee grinder allows you to replicate the perfect cup of coffee each time, rather than leaving it up to chance. Grinding right before brewing also increases the freshness of the coffee, enhancing the brew's flavour.

Grinders for Espresso and Beyond

Coffee grinders are designed for a range of different brewing methods, but a high-quality coffee grinder is especially important for a quality espresso. A uniform grind size means the coffee is consistently extracted, balancing the overall flavour profile of the cup.
