TempTag stick-on milk thermometers

TempTag is a stick-on milk thermometer designed and made in Australia. Instead of a probe that you dip in the milk, it is a small heat-reactive sticker that goes on the outside of the jug, so the milk never touches it.

How it works

As the jug heats, the sticker changes colour once the milk reaches the right temperature for a milk-based coffee. Because it is on the outside, there is nothing to wash and sanitise between drinks and no cross-contamination between milk types. It never needs calibration, which makes it easy to trust in a busy service or in a home kitchen.

Choosing a version

The standard tags are made for full cream and skim milk, with a reading at 65 degrees Celsius, and a separate soy version reacts at 58 degrees Celsius. The Pro version has three windows, reacting at 55, 65 and 70 degrees, so you can see the temperature building and choose your finishing point. Overheated milk loses its sweetness, so stopping at the right point makes a real difference to the taste of your latte.

Looking after it

Stick the tag onto a clean, dry jug. With proper care a Pro sticker keeps reading accurately for around four to six weeks. Replace it if the middle window turns grey or cloudy, or if the surface starts to bubble or peel. Keep different tags on different jugs if you steam more than one milk type.

Frequently asked questions

Choose the standard tag for full cream and skim, a soy tag for soy milk, or the Pro version if you want three windows reading 55, 65 and 70 degrees Celsius. Ask us if you are unsure.

No. Unlike many traditional thermometers it never needs calibration. Stick it to a clean, dry jug and use the colour change as your guide. Replace it when it ages.
